Families across North Texas are invited to enjoy a weekend of movement, learning, and community connection through a series of activities hosted by the University of North Texas that promote healthy habits for young children and their families. On Thursday, May 9, Boreman Elementary School will host a field day in partnership with the Tarrant Area Food Bank. The event will support educators and families in providing meaningful, engaging ways for young children to stay active. Educational resources on physical activity and making healthy food choices on a budget will be available for families just in time for summer.
On Friday, May 10, families can explore a variety of interactive games and hands-on nutrition education activities at the Cowtown Farmers Market in Fort Worth. Participate in activities such as corn hole, parachute play, scavenger hunts, and obstacle courses, and engage in nutrition games and taste-testing stations featuring fruits and vegetables. Recipes, healthy snack ideas, and no-cost summer physical activity resources will be shared, with all materials available in both English and Spanish. Cowtown Farmers Market is Tarrant County’s only producer-only farmers market, featuring approximately 35 vendors offering fresh, local goods grown and produced within 150 miles of the area.
On Saturday, May 11, the Denton Community Market will host more than 100 vendors and community partners, providing another opportunity for families to connect with local food, play-based learning, and resources to support health and wellness all summer long. All events are free and open to the public.
