Join us for a free lecture and conversation with five of the contemporary artists featured in the exhibition ‘Cowboy’. Artists Yumi Roth and Emmanuel David (speaking together), Fabian Guerrero and Rafa Esparza (speaking together), and R. Alan Brooks will discuss their process for creating works that articulate the popular mythologies surrounding the image and concept of the cowboy. All speakers will participate in an audience Q&A.
Please join us for a viewing and discussion of ‘Cowboy’, at the Amon Carter Museum, in Fort Worth. This exhibition has caught some viewers off-guard, creating a little controversy. Is it really all that controversial? It is an ‘art’ museum. Should it not be open to expression of divergent perspectives?
This exhibition explores the term ‘cowboy’, the layers of its culture and how it is seen. This is not an exhibition giving the popular representation and mythology of the cowboy. It’s an exhibition of a broader expanse of the participants and perception of the culture. It asks us to consider how the ‘cowboy’ as been represented and its entire real landscape. It also considers the traditional masculine depiction of the cowboy and missing histories.
The Amon Carter is always FREE. For those interested, we can walk to a restaurant nearby for something to eat.
