Fuchsia-Infused 50th Birthday Party at The Joule

GlamorousModern BirthdayCelebration

We had the best time working with Lisa Spraggins to plan her husband’s classic car themed 50th birthday party, so imagine our excitement when we got the chance to team up again—this time to plan Lisa’s own 50th fête! If you thought 50th birthday parties meant black-on-black decor and “Over the Hill” signs, think again. Lisa wanted her soirée to reflect her favorite things, so incorporating plenty of fuchsia design elements and serving up French-inspired cuisine were absolute musts. The result? A hip, club-like atmosphere that was as vibrant and fun as the birthday girl herself!

photos: Jason Kindig Photography

When it came to choosing a venue, The Joule proved to be the perfect setting for several reasons. “It’s such a great, chic hotel and the rooftop terrace with the private elevator entrance was perfect for the type of party I wanted,” says Lisa. “So many of my friends said that the walk-up had my name written all over it, which I loved!”

Bordered silk drapes washed in bright pink lights marked the party entrance, where guests were greeted by a champagne tower and given the opportunity to sign their names in Lisa’s guest book. In addition to including a book about the “City of Light” on the sign-in table, nods to Lisa’s favorite city, Paris, were incorporated via the menu—pomme frites, chocolate and vanilla bean macarons dusted in gold flakes, and a St. Germain infused signature cocktail dubbed the “French Blonde” were all on offer.

And speaking of drinks…they were served at the coolest custom bars! Glowing white facades were embellished with Lisa’s couture monogram from Paradise Design Co., and the design was also printed on cocktail napkins accented by gold foil. White banquettes overflowing with sequined pillows, a chic runway leading to the dance floor, cocktail tables covered in pink paisley linens, and floral arrangements composed of hydrangeas, roses, and orchid blooms completed the event environment. “Cesar at Bella Flora did an amazing job designing our event décor,” shares Lisa. “He got exactly who I was and understood everything I love about an event space.”

In keeping with the party’s club-like look and feel, DJ Andy Austin kept the dance floor full by spinning hits from behind a sleek white booth. A prop-filled photo booth provided an added dose of entertainment when a break from the dance floor was in order, and a surprise balloon drop proved to be the pièce de résistance that ended the evening in style!

Cheers to not one, but TWO incredible birthday celebrations for the sweetest family! We can’t wait for party number three with the Spraggins!

Stephanie + John Paul: Pretty in Pink Wedding at HPUMC and The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas

Glamorous BallroomChurch

Flowers are being purchased, chocolates are being gift wrapped, and last-minute reservations are being made. Valentine’s Day is tomorrow, and we couldn’t think of a more appropriate occasion to share Stephanie and John Paul’s fuchsia-infused wedding day at Highland Park United Methodist Church and The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas!

photos: Sarah Kate, Photographer

“Anyone who knows my mother or me knows that we love color, especially pink. We wanted to transform the Ritz ballroom into our own space and make it bright and colorful since that makes us happy,” Stephanie says. Junior Villanueva and the team at Garden Gate brought Stephanie’s vision to life at both the ceremony and reception through the creation of vibrant floral arrangements in shades of pink ranging from blush to magenta. For the reception, “The two elements that transformed the room the most were the wall of flowers behind the wedding cake and the floral halo and chandelier above the ballroom floor,” says the bride.

In addition to selecting a pink color palette to represent Stephanie’s taste and style, the couple incorporated a fun detail that spoke specifically to JP’s background. “John Paul is from Malibu and grew up surfing, so one of the personal touches for him was his surfboard groom’s cake with his favorite sports teams on top,” says Stephanie of the unique design, which was created by the Ritz’s pastry chef out of graham crackers and chocolate.

Also on the wedding day menu: a salad accented by Texas peaches and whipped burrata, filet with black truffle risotto, sea bass with parmesan gnocchi, and a delicious bride’s cake created by Panini Bakery. “John Paul and I really wanted our guests to feel treated with a sit-down dinner,” Stephanie says. “At every step, the Ritz provided impeccable service and was incredibly accommodating.”

As for Stephanie’s most special wedding day memory? “I will never forget the mix of happiness, nerves, and excitement I felt walking down the aisle with my dad, looking up at JP. Then hopping on the bus to the reception after the ceremony, listening to ‘Can’t Hurry Love’, sipping on champagne, and realizing we were married—surrounded by all of our closest friends—ready to go celebrate. That was an incredible feeling!” she says.

It was such a privilege for us to coordinate this “pretty in pink” wedding day for Stephanie and JP. Wishing you two all the happiness in the world…no rose-colored glasses required!

Wedding Details Inspired by Pantone’s 2017 Color of the Year

Trending

Happy New Year, friends! Tis the season for fresh starts and new beginnings, two ideas perfectly encompassed by Pantone’s 2017 color of the year: Greenery!

Wedding Details Inspired by Pantone Greenery

Here’s what Pantone has to say about the symbolism behind the selection: “Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.”

The perfect prescription for couples counting down the days until they say “I do,” don’t you agree? Pantone goes on to describe the verdant hue as “nature’s neutral,” and we love that this particular shade of green can be paired with everything from metallics, to bright pops of coral and turquoise, to 2016’s gorgeous color of the year combo, Rose Quartz and Serenity.

Convinced that Greenery should play a part in your color palette? Get inspired by these real weddings coordinated by our DFW Events planning team, each of which incorporates fresh tones to fabulous effect!

In the Press: Nicole + David’s Luxe Wedding at The Adolphus

Glamorous Ballroom

After showcasing a few sneak peeks on Instagram over the last few months, we are delighted to finally share a closer look at Nicole and David’s luxe fall wedding at The Adolphus, which was recently featured by Inside Weddings! Between the ceremony’s custom chapel design, the reception’s opulent decorative details and rich color palette, and the wide variety of entertainment elements sprinkled throughout the evening, this wedding was a highlight of our 2015 fall wedding season.

While details including handcrafted cocktails from The Grand Bevy, lavish floral from Jackson Durham Events, and performances from tap dancers and mariachi musicians alike made this wedding a standout in our minds, the bride’s kind words following her wedding day take the cake! “I believe we put a truly personalized touch on absolutely everything, and I was able to do so with the help of my team at DFW Events,” says Nicole, who worked with our in-house designer, Melanie Frazier, to create paper products ranging from custom save the dates and rehearsal dinner invitations to gold-embellished menus that perfectly reflected the couple’s style. “We really don’t feel we would have gotten the vision of our perfect weekend with all the detail and elements we wanted without the relentless efforts of our fabulous DFW Events wedding planning team.”

Jewel Toned 60th Birthday Party at Brook Hollow Golf Club

The Garden Gate and Bella Acento perfectly captured Robyn’s vision for a jewel toned soiree saturated by color. “Junior knew how much I loved my Crystal Charity Ball theme, Jewels of the Garden,” says Robyn, who was the 2014 CCB chair, “and used a lot of things from that.” The result? A fantastic fête with equal parts color and class!

Classic Car Themed 50th Birthday Party at Chicken Scratch

Rustic BirthdayCelebration

Classic cars, backyard games, southern cooking, and a surprise celebrity guest. This 50th birthday bash at Chicken Scratch had all the ingredients needed to create a perfect party atmosphere…and then some!

photos: Jason Kindig Photography

We had so much fun working with Lisa to plan a special event that her husband, Cary, would never forget. Cary’s enthusiasm for classic cars—especially his replica 1966 AC Cobra—served as the starting point for the party’s design and details. The look of the vehicle was specifically reflected via Cary’s custom party logo. Just like the AC Cobra, the logo was red with two stripes down the middle, and was showcased in various ways throughout the evening!

Megan + Keith’s Winter Wedding in Horseshoe Bay

Glamorous Holiday

We have the most lovely December “I do” in store for you today! Megan and Keith’s Horseshoe Bay wedding featured spectacular decor—think luxe arrangements of fuchsia and purple blooms, gilded chairs, ruby-hued gowns, crystal chandeliers, and more than a few hints of holiday magic! Above and beyond the beautiful aesthetics, however, is the love these two share and the meaningful details they incorporated throughout their wedding day. Keep scrolling for their sweet story and wedding day images, perfectly captured by Sarah Kate!

photos: Sarah Kate, Photographer

“Uniquely enough, Keith and I grew up together. Our mothers were in each other’s weddings and Keith is my older brother’s age,” shares Megan. Despite their long family history, it wasn’t until four years ago that Keith asked Megan out on a date following a hint from her now sister-in-law…and a little encouragement from above! “My sister-in-law told Keith I was single and he asked me out that following Monday. Our first date was at a Rangers game, and the rest is history. We also like to say that our ‘Team of Angels’ brought us together—my mother, his grandparents, and my grandfathers who have passed away.”

In the Press: Katherine + Landon’s Eclectic Wedding at Arlington Hall

Bohemian Chic Outdoor Press

We are thrilled today to share one of the most unique weddings we’ve had the privilege of coordinating in recent memory—a Dallas “I do” that put a global, sophisticated spin on the much-loved “bohemian chic” aesthetic.

photos: Shaun Menary Photography

While Arlington Hall is typically known as a more traditional venue, Katherine and Landon made the space completely their own through the incorporation of patterned textiles, layered heirloom rugs, gilded decorative accents, and earthy arrangements from Bella Flora of Dallas.

The final effect? An environment that felt less like a themed event space, and more like a richly-ornamented home decorated with souvenirs gathered from travels around the world. But don’t just take our word for it. Instead, take a look at these gorgeous images captured by Shaun Menary Photography, and catch more details (and the couple’s sweet engagement story) by picking up a copy of the newest issue of D Weddings!

Hannah + Tommy: Classic Church Wedding with Reception at The City Club

Classic Church

If we were tasked with defining Hannah and Tommy’s wedding day using a single word, it would have to be JOY. From the vows they exchanged at Park Cities Presbyterian to the looks on their faces as they waved goodbye following their reception at The City Club, a “brimming over with happiness” kind of feeling was present at each and every turn.

photos: John Cain Photography

That’s no surprise considering the couple’s sweet love story, which spans several years and multiple countries. Hannah and Tommy became friends while on a trip to Hong Kong in 2009, and although they didn’t begin dating until a few years later, Tommy began writing Hannah letters soon after. There was just one catch: He never sent them. Until the day he proposed, that is.

“He had been writing me letters, which he never sent, since we met in 2009. The letters were all about the progression of his feelings for me from friends, to liking me, to loving me,” Hannah recalls. “He put them into about four sets and had different people deliver them to me starting from when I woke up on the morning of February 7, 2014 in Arkansas. The day included receiving these letters from friends and family, flying back to Dallas, and then being driven to the Katy Trail where Tommy was waiting for me.” In a very serendipitous sort of moment, it began to snow right as Tommy knelt down to propose with the ring in hand!

The duo’s January wedding day matched the wintry setting of Tommy’s proposal, and was defined by a “neutral yet sparkly romantic” decorative palette selected by the bride. Having both grown up attending Park Cities Presbyterian Church, there was no question as to where the couple would say “I do.”

Jarrett-Obenchain 01.104

For the reception, The City Club provided the traditional, classic, yet unique vibe (not to mention fabulous views of the Dallas skyline!) that Hannah and Tommy knew their guests would enjoy.

Lovely details abounded in every element from the floral arrangements created by Kate Foley Designs to the delicious cakes crafted by Panini Bakery, but we were especially taken with the story behind the beautiful baubles that complemented the bride’s gown from Patsy’s Bridal.

“I wore the same necklace that was my great-grandmother’s necklace that she wore at her wedding – all of the women on my mother’s side of the family have now worn [the necklace] when they’ve been married. When I wore it at my wedding it marked 102 years that this heirloom has been in our family,” Hannah shares.

The couple celebrated their shared passion for travel by jet-setting to locations including Dubai, Bali, and Sydney for their honeymoon. As for the bride’s most beloved wedding day memory?

“We exited with the horns from the band playing behind us and the sparklers ahead of us. It was lightly drizzling rain outside, but as we walked through the pathway of our dearest friends and family I was filled with more joy than almost ever before,” Hannah says. “Tommy and I were married and we had just had the best night of our lives – we were able to see the faces of the people who have stood by us through so many things and be reminded of the support we were walking with into this new phase of life.”

Congratulations, Hannah and Tommy – we wish you much continued joy (and many more chances to use your passports) as you continue on your marriage journey!

Allie + Mitch: Elegant Wedding Filled With Personal Details

Elegant ChurchCountry Club

If you’re planning on a holiday proposal, you might want to take a few notes from the way Mitch and Allie’s journey to “I do” began!

“After spending Christmas with my family at my home in Arkansas, Mitch pretended to fly back to Dallas ‘for work’ when in reality he stuck around in Little Rock all day while waiting to propose,” Allie shares.

So imagine her surprise when, during a faux “girl’s night” Mitch had arranged at a hotel known for its holiday décor, Allie noticed a beautiful arrangement of flowers with a card bearing her name. “The card pointed me to one of the Christmas trees on display where Mitch had hidden the ring box. Once I found the ring box, I turned around and he was there down on one knee. We spent the rest of the night celebrating over dinner and drinks with my family.”

Just as in Mitch’s carefully-planned proposal, meaningful moments with family and friends abounded throughout the couple’s wedding day. The couple exchanged vows at Royal Lane Baptist church, where Mitch’s uncle served as the officiating pastor.

The bride’s sisters served as bridesmaids and walked the aisle to “Canon in D” – “We played this as a duet, two girls on each piano, at a recital during childhood,” Allie says. Both families prayed over the couple during their ceremony, and a mutual friend from Baylor University played the guitar and sang as the couple took communion.

When it came to their reception at the Dallas Country Club, creating a top-notch experience for their 325 guests was a high priority for Allie and Mitch. “It was super important to us that our guests felt wined and dined, as next to faith, family and friends mean the world to us! We wouldn’t be getting married without them and wanted them to have just as much fun as us,” says Allie, who cites elegant arrangements by Garden Gate as her favorite decorative element.

The personal theme of the evening continued as guests signed a cutting board embellished with the couple’s initials (“We now have it hanging in our kitchen!”) and the groom sliced into a custom Baylor-themed cake created by Cretia’s. After filling their plates with offerings from multiple food stations – Asian stir-fry was the runaway hit of the evening – guests headed to the dance floor and didn’t leave until “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars closed out the evening!

As for the couple’s favorite memory from their wedding day? “I remember getting in the car and seeing the confetti still coming down and the trumpet players from Downtown Fever sending us out to ‘When The Saints Go Marching In,’” Allie recalls. “Mitch and I kissed and had the biggest smiles on our faces…we both knew that this had been hands down one of the best nights of our lives. We still talk about tiny details and fun memories now, more than six months later! In my eyes, it was my dream fairytale night!”

Now THAT is the kind of story that makes us want to use the hashtag #weloveourjobs all over everything! Congratulations, Allie and Mitch – it was truly a privilege to be a part of bringing your fairytale to life!
