Colorful Winter Wedding Inspiration

Winter Holiday

It’s true—we love a wedding wrapped in wintery whites. But we’re equally drawn to celebrations that evoke the excitement of the season via vibrant color palettes and festive design details. Who says a winter wonderland has to be covered in snow? As these holiday inspired weddings will prove, draping an “I do” in layers of color is every bit as magical.

THE WEDDING PARTY

Jewel tones pair perfectly with a December wedding—think gowns for the bridesmaids in ruby or rich purple, with a red velvet coat and a sweet flower crown for your littlest attendant.

“Uniquely enough, Keith and I grew up together. Our mothers were in each other’s weddings and Keith is my older brother’s age,” shares Megan. Despite their long family history, it wasn’t until four years ago that Keith asked Megan out on a date following a hint from her now sister-in-law…and a little encouragement from above! “My sister-in-law told Keith I was single and he asked me out that following Monday. Our first date was at a Rangers game, and the rest is history. We also like to say that our ‘Team of Angels’ brought us together—my mother, his grandparents, and my grandfathers who have passed away.”

THE OUTFIT + ACCESSORIES

photo: DFW Events

If you’re…

Dining out in Dallas: Headed somewhere special like the Mansion or Fearing’s for a romantic dinner? With the Dallas “see and be seen culture,” you want to look your best while still feeling effortless. You can’t go wrong with your favorite LBD and a metallic heel that just says, “We’re celebrating!” Be bold and sport one with a cutout to make your date’s head turn!

Or maybe you’re feeling a classic…

Dinner and a movie: You don’t need to paint the town (or your outfit) red on Valentine’s Day to spend a great night with your honey! Throw on your favorite boyfriend jeans and a leather jacket, then pair with your favorite ankle boots and tousled hair for a relaxed and low-maintenance look.

Or perhaps you’re going out with the girls for a…

Galentine’s celebration: Who says you need a date to enjoy Valentine’s Day? Head out with your favorite girlfriends for drinks and dancing wearing a rockin’ jumpsuit! Up the “girly” factor with a pair of heels accented by bows.

THE GIFT EXCHANGE

Gifts for Her:

For girls who appreciate a little extra pampering: Pick up a gift card to her favorite mani/pedi place. More of a hair girl? A gift card for a blowout with a deep conditioning treatment add-on will do the trick.

For girls inspired to decorate: Purchase a vase or jar from her favorite pottery line that she can use long-term at home. On Valentine’s Day, have your local florist arrange pink and red flowers in the vase or jar that you selected. Or better yet, run to Central Market, Whole Foods, or Trader Joe’s for peonies, roses, or hydrangeas to place on your own.

Gifts for Him:

For handyman husbands that love projects: Snag a pocket-sized measuring tape he can take on trips to Home Depot, Lowes, and other design stores. We particularly love this leather version by Mark and Graham. Bonus: It can be monogrammed.

For guys who can’t wait for summer vacation: Sunglasses are a great way to go. Ray Ban Aviators are a classic your handsome guy is sure to love! You might also consider gifting him with a mini “staycation” filled with fun experiences, like a tour of a local brewery (with a tasting included of course)!

THE MENU

Whether you have a dinner reservation or are planning a romantic evening in, remember a few things…

1. Keep it simple: If you’re so stressed about things going perfectly that you’re no longer acting like yourself, the whole point of sharing a meal with the person you love is in danger of being missed!

2. Be thoughtful: Does your honey love breakfast? How about fixing breakfast for dinner, then? You could also think about re-creating a dish at home that you had on your first date!

3. Plan ahead: As a professional planner, this is a given! But keep in mind that even the best laid plans don’t always turn out perfectly. The good news? Changed plans often make for the best memories.

DINNER IS SERVED!

Salad: Strawberry Spinach Salad with Warm Bacon Vinaigrette and Goat Cheese

Tip: Prep your strawberries and spinach beforehand.  On Valentine’s Day, create your vinaigrette purely because your home will smell like bacon!

Entree: Brown Sugar Dijon Roasted Pork Tenderloin

Tip: Marinate the pork in advance to ensure the best possible flavor! Use a digital thermometer to quickly check if pork is cooked without having to cut into it.

Sides: Chipotle Sweet Potato Grits and  Sauteed Sweet Snow Peas with Garlic

Tip: Roast an extra sweet potato the day before and simply stir into your favorite grits with some pureed chipotle chiles. Voila! Showstopper side dish!

Dessert: Bourbon and Spice Molten Chocolate Cakes

Note: These cakes can easily be prepped in advance, and the fact that the recipe serves four means you’ll have the chance to enjoy leftovers…lucky you!

BOURBON AND SPICE MOLTEN CHOCOLATE CAKES
Makes 4 servings

photo: DFW Events

 Ingredients:

4 oz. Good Quality Dark Chocolate

1 Stick Unsalted Butter

2 Tablespoons Bourbon

1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract

1 Cup Sifted Powdered Sugar

1 Egg

3 Egg Yolks

6 Tablespoons Flour

1/2 Teaspoon Salt

1/4 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon

1/4 Teaspoon Ground Ginger

1/4 Teaspoon Ground Cayenne Pepper

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Butter and flour four individual ovenproof dishes, or four wells of a muffin tin.

2. Finely chop chocolate and set aside. Microwave butter until melted and bubbling hot. Pour hot butter over chocolate in medium mixing bowl and cover with plastic wrap and let sit for 5 min. Stir chocolate and butter until chocolate is melted. Mix bourbon, vanilla and powdered sugar into chocolate until blended. Add in egg and egg yolks and stir to combine. Whisk together flour with cinnamon, ginger, cayenne pepper, and salt. Combine flour mixture into chocolate mixture and fold together with a spatula.

3. Pour batter into prepared dishes or muffin tin.

Note: At this point you can put these in the fridge until you’re ready for dessert! Once ready, place dishes or muffin tins into pre-heated oven for 13-15 minutes until sides of cakes are slightly puffed and firm, but centers are still soft and fudgey looking. Let stand for one minute before loosening edges with a thin knife and inverting onto serving plate.

Serving suggestions:

Serve simply dusted with powdered sugar or garnish as you please! Vanilla or dulce de leche ice cream are fabulous additions as well as a dollop of bourbon and vanilla spiked whipped cream.

In the Press: Tiffany + Immanuel’s Holiday Themed Wedding

Winter Holiday

Pinch us, please. Christmas Eve is just two days away! To celebrate, we’re sharing all the happy holiday details from Tiffany + Immanuel’s wedding, which was featured on D Weddings’ Bridal Buzz blog! If you’ve been dreaming of a winter white wedding of your own, then grab a mug of hot chocolate, curl up by the fire, and prepare for a serious dose of holiday magic as we break down every last detail of this intimate December “I do.”

photos: Edmonson Weddings

First things first: that gown. Tiffany was absolutely breathtaking in her Ines Di Santo confection purchased from The Bridal Salon at Neiman Marcus. From the luxe folds of the skirt to the crystal-encrusted bodice accented by off-the-shoulder cap sleeves, everything about Tiffany’s dress evoked the “French-European” flair of the couple’s wedding day. The bridal party sparkled as well in gorgeous, glittering Theia gowns from Neiman Marcus.

And how handsome is the groom in his Ralph Lauren Black Label attire?

The couple exchanged vows at Christ the King Catholic Church, a stunning setting for their intimate ceremony. An all-white floral palette from Garden Gate brought a light, delicate touch to the altar space.

Says Tiffany: “Our family has a long-standing history with Christ the King, and it is our family parish, so that was an easy decision. Most members of my family were married there, and it also has that very traditional and formal feel I wanted too, so it was a natural fit.”

For their reception, the couple selected the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek for the venue’s “old Dallas” feel and rich history. “We went with a sit down dinner, with silvers and golds as our base palettes, then mixed in rich jewel tones—reds, soft pinks, lavenders, deep purples, hot pinks,” shares Tiffany. “I really wanted a black tie, intimate, and regal feel. Especially with the holidays, a winter formal wedding felt perfect, and we mixed in just little splashes of Christmas.”

Personal touches abounded throughout the evening, and included a topper for the groom’s cake modeled after the couple’s beloved dog, a fun candy table filled with Christmas cookies and a selection of Tiffany and Immanuel’s favorite treats, and a few surprise elements—snowflake lights on the ceiling during cocktail hour, a dance floor monogram, and extra touches to the bride’s cake—gifted by the bride’s mother.

And let’s not forget the food! The dinner menu was just as luxe at the rest of the evening, and featured a dual entrée of roasted Filet Mignon and butter poached lobster tail served with broccolini and and pomme puree. A custom wintry holiday-themed cocktail, the “Merry Me,” lent a playful touch the evening, as did the couple’s festive favors and their dog’s very special reception appearance. Dressed in a tux, “he made quite the entrance to ‘Pretty Woman’ at bouquet toss time!” recalls Tiffany.

Congratulations, Tiffany and Immanuel—we’re so grateful to have been a part of your magical December wedding day! Wishing all of our friends a very merry holiday season and a joyful beginning to 2016!

Gift Ideas for the Holiday Hostess

Holiday

Happy December, friends! ‘Tis the season for glittering decor and so much more—like those holiday parties filling every other slot on your calendar, for instance! Since you know you’ll be leaving each gathering of family and friends with a full heart, arriving empty-handed to a holiday soiree simply isn’t an option. With that in mind, we’ve curated a gift guide alongside several of our most trusted industry friends that’s filled with items the hostess-with-the-mostess in your life is sure to enjoy all year long. Bonus: These gifts aren’t tied to one particular season, meaning any of these options would work fabulously for a bridal shower hostess as well! (Or as a “just because” gift for yourself…don’t worry, we won’t tell.)

1. Sertodo Copper, “Nile Cradle Oval Ice Bucket” | $250
Don’t be fooled: this gorgeous copper ice bucket can do much more than cool your Chardonnay (although it’s great at that, too). It’s equally as chic—and more than a little luxurious—when used as a centerpiece for an outdoor tablescape. photos: Natalie Seeboth

2. RedBliss at Home, “Affinity Collection Cards” | $95 for a set of 6
Designed by sisters Christine Traulich and Dori McDonald, the RedBliss at Home line constitutes one of our favorite product launches of 2015. The collection as a whole is striking, and we’re particularly taken with the idea of gifting a set of these magnificent correspondence cards this season. While a hand-written note always make a statement, sentiments penned on these Chroma-laden cards are sure to be infused with an extra dose of splendor and significance.  photo: Genevieve de Manio Photography

3. Baccarat, “Louxor Silk Twill Scarf” | Available for purchase via Consilium Lifestyle Collections
Dean Driver is our go-to for gift ideas that are both the height and heart of luxury, so if he recommends gifting a gorgeous scarf from Baccarat, that’s exactly what we’ll aim to do. “These elegantly designed scarves are of the highest quality silk befitting the House of Baccarat,” says Dean. “The square scarves come in seven different colors and the smaller rectangular scarves come in five. This is a true luxury accessory.” photo via Baccarat

4. JK Chocolate, “MICROCHIP® Cookies” | from $14
Delicious, dainty, and perfectly packaged—JK Chocolate’s signature confection contains all of these qualities and more. Cookies are available in a variety of sizes and flavors (from chocolate chip to peanut butter with sea salt), meaning the selection is sure to suit the tastes of everyone on your nice list. photo via JK Chocolate

5. W&P Design, “Carry-On Cocktail Kit” | from $24
You know that friend who’s planning on jet-setting for the Bahamas as soon as the last guest waves goodbye at her holiday party? This is the gift for her—a beautifully-designed kit that allows her to mix up her own Moscow Mule or Gin & Tonic while flying first class. photos courtesy of W&P Design

6. Glassy Baby Votives in “Sorry” and “Blue Eyes” | $44
This is a gift (and company) that does a world of good…literally. To date, Seattle-based Glassy Baby has donated more than $3 million dollars to help people, animals, and the environment heal. We love the warm glow that candles bring to an event environment, meaning these votives get our vote for anyone who loves to entertain at home. The aqua color palette caught our eye, but if you’d rather not have a blue Christmas, be sure to peruse the options in their holiday collection. photos via Glassy Baby

7. RedBliss at Home, “Affinity Coasters” | $85 for a set of 6
They’re almost too beautiful to play host to your glassware, but that’s exactly what these coasters were designed for. Christine also suggests placing them beneath candles to add extra glamour to a holiday tablescape. “Our clients are seeking a more modern approach to event styling and home entertaining, and gatherings are becoming more intimate with increased personal touches and luxury details,” she says. “This has translated into designs becoming more sleek, sophisticated and unconventional.” PS: RedBliss Design can also create a custom home entertaining collection just for you, an idea we think is more than worthy of your own wishlist. photo: Genevieve de Manio Photography

8. Le Jacquard Francais, Tea Towel “Bar à Vins Zinc” | Available for purchase via Lifestyle Consilium Collections
These tea towels unite two of our favorite qualities, functionality and beauty, into just one gift for your favorite foodie’s kitchen. “These beautiful kitchen towels come in many different patterns and the designs are updated each season,” says Dean. “I like to wrap a bottle of wine in one and tie it with a bow. It makes a great presentation and is actually two gifts in one.” We’ll clink our glasses to that suggestion. photo via Le Jacquard Francais

And there you have it! Our 2015 picks for the happiest holiday hostess gifts. May your festivities be merry and bright, and all your gift ideas be just right!
